The Student's Prayer

Dear Father of all wisdom,
grant me the ability to get understanding,
not just knowledge;
help me see in the learning process
more of Your great plan for mankind,
not just a means to my success.
Cause me to recognize and remember truth,
not just facts;
remind me that You weigh my trying,
not just my doing ---
and, Father, above all else
help me be more than a learner...
help me be a lesson in Your saving love to
everyone You bring into
my life.

Amen.

How This Old World Has Changed

(I found this typed up in some papers that my Grandmother Kitty Elliott gave me; I don't know who the author is...)
How This Old World Has Changed
Since I was born some years ago
This world has changed somehow;
We use both milk and butter
That has never seen a cow.
We have instant coffee, instant tea
Instant this and that,
Lots of of other instant foods
Not fit to feed a cat.
We have substitute sugar, substitute for salt;
We have so many substitutes
We don't know who to fault.

Boys and girls both dress alike;
Can't tell one from the other.
Same way with Mom and Dad.
Can't tell Dad from Mother
One more thing that don't look right,
I think it is a sin;
They moved the cook stove out of doors
And moved the outhouse in!
I don't know how far this will go,
But up until this minute,
I love this good old world of ours
'Cause we can still live in it

Fear Me.

Drawings

These pictures were drawn by others, but kept by me. I don't know why, but I did. :)
The dragon/Lord of the Rings-esque picture was drawn by either Esther (my sister) or Jeremiah Hammack. I'm not really sure. It's cool though.
These two were drawn by Matthew (my brother), hence the initials, M.J.E.

L.A.I.R.M.

Emily Burt, one of my best friends and pen pals for years, and I were at some kind of conference or service where a saying came up -- Love Always Inspires Righteous Motives. For years after that, we always signed our letters with L.A.I.R.M.

It's become a little joke with us, but I've always thought it to be really poignant. I hope I always do!
